What is vendor risk assessment?

Vendor risk assessment examines how a supplier or contractor could affect your organisation's financial, operational, regulatory or reputational position. The relevant questions depend on the engagement: a critical technology provider presents different dependencies from a construction contractor or trading counterparty.

Credosint supplies source-referenced research to support that assessment. It brings company-level evidence together; your team determines the materiality of each finding against the intended contract and its own risk appetite.

Eight dimensions of vendor risk

01

Financial resilience

Available liquidity, leverage, profitability and cash-flow evidence, with entity and reporting-period context.

02

Execution capability

Disclosed track record, delivery commitments, project history and operating capacity.

03

Ownership & governance

Available ownership, control, related-party and governance evidence, including unresolved ownership gaps.

04

Sanctions & PEP

Screening findings and political exposure context. Potential matches remain subject to identity and human review.

05

Legal & regulatory

Relevant public proceedings, regulatory developments and disclosed compliance matters.

06

Cyber & data

Available public security and data-risk signals. This is research, not penetration testing or a technical security audit.

07

Operational resilience

Disclosed continuity, concentration and dependency signals that may affect service or delivery.

08

Geographic concentration

Available location and jurisdictional exposure relevant to the vendor's operations and your engagement.

Make the assessment relevant to your contract

When requesting research, include the vendor's legal name, country and registration identifier. Add the service category, intended contract value, business criticality, operating countries and whether the vendor will access sensitive data, where those details are relevant and you are authorised to share them.

This context helps frame follow-up questions. For example, dependence on a single delivery location can matter more for a critical service than for a readily substitutable supply. Public financial evidence should also be assessed for the actual contracting entity rather than assumed from its wider group.

Use evidence gaps as review actions

Unknown is not the same as low risk. Where a dimension lacks reliable evidence, Credosint identifies the limitation rather than treating silence as reassurance. Sanctions and PEP observations require independent screening interpretation and human review.

Use the assessment to request supporting documents, clarify ownership, validate delivery capacity or escalate an issue internally. It supports professional judgement and does not provide an automated vendor approval, regulated credit rating or compliance certification.

From onboarding to ongoing review

Keep the report as a dated assessment and enable opt-in monitoring for eligible completed reports if subsequent ownership, PEP or screening changes matter to your review. In-app alerts help identify developments for follow-up within the applicable scheduling and retention limits.

Combine Credosint research with your own contract controls, vendor questionnaires, references and specialist reviews. Read the research methodology for the evidence approach and limitations.
